TeleNet Video Conferencing

The ACES MeetingPlace system incorporates a video MCU (Multipoint Control Unit) capable of supporting up to 48 simultaneous connections from H.323 video conferencing endpoints. Our system is fully integrated with our campus network of internal and external gatekeepers, including redundant CUBE (Cisco Unified Border Element) systems functioning in the Session Border Controller role. (Essentially an audio/video firewall/router that allows limited public access to protected resources on a private campus network.) At this time, SIP video cannot be supported - but we intend to extend support to SIP devices at our earliest opportunity.

The ACES MeetingPlace system is connected to the worldwide video conferencing network sometimes referred to as ViDeNet, and uses the Global Dialing Scheme (GDS) for all video endpoint addressing. In North America, the University of Illinois works closely with the Internet2 Commons to coordinate video conferencing connectivity between participating institutions.

A note on E.164 address notation...

In our system's emailed notifications, you may note the use of parentheses in GDS video/E.164 addresses:  (0011159)101000

This is a local practice that we have adopted to more clearly delineate what is the "institutional prefix", and what is the local portion of the address.

Video endpoints that are registered against our campus' internal gatekeepers that are connecting to internal campus resources may omit/drop the institutional prefix portion of the full address. This portion is still required by off-campus endpoints, and when connecting to off-campus resources.

When the full GDS number is used without any parenthetical notation, then the entire number should be used regardless of whether your endpoint is internal (on-campus) or external.
